Although the majority of rehabilitation funding has been directed to the main lines, deteriorated sewer manholes contribute approximately 30-50% of infiltration of groundwater into the system. This infiltration results in overloaded treatment plants, expensive treatment cost, ineffective wastewater treatment and pollution to our environment. Manholes commonly experience high levels of corrosive sewer gases that cause deterioration from sulfuric acid. Sulfuric acid will attack the entire precast concrete structure or the mortar joints in brick structures, causing severe deterioration to the point of structural fatigue or failure.

Belzona® 4141 (Magma Build) is used to rebuild any pitted and corroded areas in the structure.  Then Belzona® 5811 (Immersion Grade) is used to topcoat and provide permanent protection and to solve the problems of infiltration and deterioration in manholes. The problem had been that most other rehabilitation methods result in costly short-term fixes or simply mask the problem. 

Many years of actual real-world experience has shown Belzona® to successfully stop the chemical corrosion and infiltration in a permanent and cost effective manner.
